I am keeping (If I get one:) a Spotted Moorit Ewe lamb out of Pumpkin and a Ewe lamb out of Elena. Over the last four breeding seasons Elena has given me twin ram lambs so I don't have any girls from her yet and won't be able to part with any born this year. If you are interested in any of the lambs from the above sire's - please contact me preferably by phone at: (207) 726-4765. I can then provide you information on the breeding behind my ewes. We are breeding here for Health, fine fleeces, great temperaments, ease of lambing and milkiness. Here are some photo's of our beautiful ewes and the results of our breeding program over the last four years:

Please note . . . . . if there is no registration number behind a ewe name . . . . Registrations are pending for many of my sheep. All of my sheep are the results of the original 8 sheep purchased from The Lavender Fleece in 2006. My original ram sire registration numbers were (LF112R) and (LF201S).

Olde Sow Farm:

A message from Olde Sow Farm~

Well as some of you know the time for Jess to have our 6th child is
approaching, and you know if it was up to her she would have the baby
even while she was milking if she had to, tough resiliant and a very
hard worker. I want Jess to take these last few moments before the
birth of the baby to relax and make this the best experience for her.
I also want to take advantage of school break to install the new
milking system in the barn. (Which will make her life and any
volunteers attempts easier) We are going to take this next week off
from milk /yogurt orders as a result, and the following week if need
be. We still welcome any sausage orders as I can take care of those
and get those orders dropped off as usual. I hope all the customers
understand the situation. We want to welcome this new life with the
least amount of stress as possible, and I want Jess to take it easy.
I hope you and the customers understand. I will be in touch by
Wednesday to update the status regarding next weeks available
products.
Thanks
Dante

Icelandic Sheep Breeding Stock for Sale 2011

Our lambs will be arriving in about two months and most of my ewes are beginning to show:)

After four years of establishing an outstanding flock of ewes and three wonderful rams . . .this year I have decided to start selling breeding stock. Photo's of my ewes with the rams that they were bred to will be posted over the next week or so. A non-refundable $100.00 deposit is required for all lambs born this year. Ewes are priced at $650.00 registered and $450 non-registered. My top ram lambs will also be sold this year . . . . $500.00 registered, $350.00 non-registered and $250.00 as a fiber whether.

Our flock has outstanding fleeces, excellent conformations, milkiness and wonderful temperaments. We have never lost one of our sheep to disease or parasites. Our sheep are NEVER fed grain. They are given a diet of pasture and the highest quality hay that is harvested near the shores of Cobscook Bay. In the fall, our sheep will eat all of our windfall apples from our heritage apple trees. Our mineral supplements are Kelp, Vitamin E and Selenium. We give a 2.5 gram copper bolus twice per year to our colored sheep and once after lambing to our white sheep.

I have some lambs already reserved for this year so please contact me if you are interested in adding our genetics to your established flock or are starting a flock of your own. All initial inquiries or questions must be made via a phone call ~ please no e-mails.

Thank you so much!!!

I did not quite make it to MasterChef . . . . but still will write the cookbook:)

Some of you out there know that I have been going through the process of being picked for the cooking competition "MasterChef". We drove down to Boston for my food audition on November 14th. I can't go into what happened that day but my food passed the taste test (this was the scariest part for me) and interview process went extremely well. I found out two days ago that although I was very close to making the final cut . . . . . It just did not happen.

I need to thank everyone out there that has been so supportive. My family, friends, customers and especially . . . . my husband and my kids.

The cookbook will still be written. . . . That was why I really wanted to do the show . . . . for the cookbook publishing deal. Many of my current recipe's revolve around what is available seasonally and locally from our farm and others nearby. I love seafood dishes and what is available around Cobscook Bay is some of the most pristine and best tasting seafood in the world.

I am hoping to write my cookbook on my own over the spring, summer and fall with lots of photo's of the farm and animals. I need to find a publisher and a "book coach":) This will be written like a diary with all of my recipe's covering what is available seasonally at Kilby Ridge Farm along with other farms nearby and food from the sea.

I can speculate about the reasons that I did not make MasterChef but think I was either too normal . . . . or cooked outside the box too much. After all . . . . I cook mostly on my 1937 Home Comfort wood cook stove in my 200 year old kitchen. Mark also bought me a Sous Vide machine for Christmas (see earlier post) and it has been been turning all of our meats and vegetables into five star meals lately . . . . . also found a new use for my machine. It is great for heating up milk to precise temperatures so you can make "perfect" cheese.

All for now . . . . thanks again, everyone!

My Christmas Gift . . . . oh my gosh!!! A SOUS VIDE MACHINE!!!!!

I was floored this Christmas. Mark gave me a Sous Vide Machine. I am now in high tech foodie heaven. This thing (a very high tech water oven) will cook meats, vegetables and some fruits perfectly through temperature controlled water immersion. Think of Thomas Keller of the "French Laundry" when you see this in your kitchen . . . . yes . . . cooking in our household will now go from three stars to five stars with this contraption.

So this is what I cooked tonight . . . . Narrangansett Turkey Breast with pesto mayo on a bed of spring greens, hothouse tomatoes and garlic croutons . . . . the turkey was to die for. One of the best meat dishes that I have ever cooked. Next up is our lamb, chicken and the last duck that I have saved for this winter. Oh, and I have some great baby back pork ribs from Tide Mill Farm . . . . may put those in tonight and have them on Tuesday. Love this machine . . . . Thanks so much my big Honey!!!!

Christmas Turkey and Availabilities for 12/17

Although a bit late . . . . our power was out most of the day yesterday due to the huge storm that has been crossing the country over the last few days. Strangely we did not get snow but warm thundery rain (almost 8 inches!!!!) and lots and lots of wind.

We still have some turkey's available for Christmas. Our local paper wrote a great article on our farm. Because of this article . . . the turkeys are selling fast so please contact me soon to reserve one.

Above is a photo of our Thanksgiving Narrangansett Turkey prior to cooking our big meal. Since I have had so many requests on how to prepare a heritage turkey ~ I will be uploading a video later this week. We had some technical difficulties with the video but everything should be up soon via You-Tube.

Here are the availabilites for this week. Please have all orders to me by this evening. Please return all glass jars for both Tide Mill and Olde Sow farm.

Thanks so much!!!
